Desert Dance - Open Secrets (EP) (2014)

Year : 2014
Style : Hard Rock
Country : Brazil
Audio : 320 kbps + front + Video
Size : 158 mb

Bio:

When the musicians from the Brazilian band Desert Dance got together in the beginning of 2014 they never thought about the dichotomy between following patterns and adopting an avant-garde posture. For Junior Rodrigues (vocals), Lizzy Louiz (guitars), Leonardo Xavier (bass) and Nico The Boss (drums), if the music tended to Hard Rock or if it would take them to Heavy Metal, hardly mattered. The name Desert Dance came from the musician’s fascination with the mystery of the optical delusions of the mirages and the extreme situations that man can face in nature. At the highest point of dehydration a battered person pass through serious clinical impairments until stress and tension bring shock, the "desert dance".Experienced from previous bands that include Electric Age and B.I.T.E, they gather their references from names like Ratt, Dokken, Winger, Slaughter, Triumph, Impellitteri, Loudness, Yngwie Malmsteen and Judas Priest to start the songwriting process. The result was the debut EP "Open Secrets", recorded at Mr.Som studio in São Paulo with musician and producer De Grigo (Paradise Inc., Oitoo, Electric Age, Tierramystica, ção Direta, among others). It was mixed by Henrique Baboom (Jeff Scott Soto, Salário Mínimo, Sioux 666, Panzer, Fake Number, Screams Of Hate, The Mission, Nacionarquia, among others) and mastered by Alessandro Kabral at Wstf studios.Desert Dance is:Junior Rodrigues, singer, 22.Junior sang for Son Of A Beast (Iron Maiden Tribute), Stainless Blade (Traditional Heavy Metal), Killing Machine (Deep Tribute) and Electric Age, with which he was on the “Monsters Of Rock” festival 2013 and was nominated as one of the only Latin America bands to fight for a spot in the European festival “Sweden Rock Festival 2014”.Lizzy Louis, guitar player, 21.Guitar undergraduate at Santa Marcelina College (SP/BRA). Besides Hard N’Heavy plays other musical styles like Blues, Jazz, Rock, Pop and Classic. He had an album recorded with B.I.T.E.Nico The Boss, drummer, 20. Took practical drum lessons with professor Pedro Júnior and complete rhythm theory at Tom Maior School of music. He played for Killing Machine (Deep Purple Tribute) and Electric Age with which he played at "Monsters Of Rock" festival in 2013 in the same day as Whitesnake, Dokken, Ratt and Aerosmith, and was nominated as one of the only Latin America bands to fight for a spot in the European festival “Sweden Rock Festival 2014”.Leonardo Xavier, bass player, 18. He was on Psycho Mondays, Sunset Strip (MötleyCrüe Tribute), Lost Boyz (Crashdiët Tribute).

Album:

Hailing from Brazil, Desert Dance is yet another example of the internet's unlimited reach in spreading sleaze metal throughout every corner of the world. While not without flaws, Desert Dance's debut EP does show a lot of promise while recreating an '80s sound made famous by a couple bands in particular. Those two groups I speak of are Skid Row and Badlands. Skid Row immediately comes to mind while listening to Open Secrets' rambunctious lead-off single "Louder Faster And Sleeze". Easily the best composition found on the EP, the song features shredding guitar work and the type of screaming over-the-top vocal delivery that propelled Sebastian Bach to stardom. "Dance" on the other hand ventures into Badlands territory as the song excels due to the contrast between its hard-rocking and moody moments and displays the songwriting talents that exist within Desert Dance."Crime Town" has the potential to follow in the footsteps of "Dance" but just doesn't seem to work quite as well -- maybe do to the staccato drum pattern or slightly annoying lead up to the chorus -- while the closing "Letting You Know" falls somewhere between the two spectrums found on Open Secrets. By no means the EP's shining moment, the song succeeds mostly thanks to its chorus, the screaming vocals into the wailing guitar solo and a thumping drum beat. Featuring Electric Age vocalist Junior Rodrigues and drummer Nico "The Boss", as well as B.I.T.E. guitarist Lizzy Louiz, I'm not sure if Desert Dance is a side project or the musician's new focus. Whatever the situation, Desert Dance shows a lot of potential despite the fact they have only been together less than a year.
